The ninth season of The Office premiered from September 20, 2012, and ended on May 16, 2013.

Production[]

It is the final season of the American series and consisted of 25 episodes (divided into 19 half-hour episodes, three hour-long episodes and one 75-minute long episode). It was the show's first season without head writer Paul Lieberstein, who was replaced by Dan Sterling. Writer Mindy Kaling also departed from the show. Ed Helms and Catherine Tate reprise their roles as Regional Manager Andy Bernard, and Special Projects Manager Nellie Bertram. Several new characters are introduced. Namely: Pete (New Jim, Plop) and Clark (New Guy, Dwight Jr.). On August 3, 2012, it was announced that David Denman who played Roy Anderson would guest star in Episode 2 of the season. This season was marketed as The Farewell Season for its DVD and Blu-ray releases.

Andy returns after a "manager retreat" intended to increase his confidence as a manger. An old friend of Jim's starts a business and asks Jim to join him as partner. Two new young employees, nicknamed Plop and Dwight Junior, are hired by the Scranton branch and cause trouble for Jim and Dwight. Angela asks everyone to adopt her cat, Oscar considers seeing as he is with Angela's husband. Kelly leaves for Ohio with Ravi and Ryan follows after her. Andy attempts revenge on Nellie.
Roy's Wedding 2 9002 September 27, 2012
Pam creates a chore wheel, but everyone wants it to be more fun. Jim and Pam attend Roy's (Pam's ex-fiancé) wedding. Nellie launches her charity. Dwight decides to donate his money to the Taliban. Nellie makes him live under their rules. Clark and Pete try to woo Erin by making her do a fake interview. Pam and Jim realize they know everything about each other (...or do they?).

Darryl has a hard time in his new role as assistant regional manager when Andy flaunts his bloodlines. Dwight teaches Erin the Dothraki language to impress her boyfriend's educated family. Nellie tries to convince Pam that Jim is having an affair, and Jim reveals his secret in the warehouse.

It's Halloween in the office and Andy invites his college a cappella group to perform, which leads to a confrontation with his frenemy Broccoli Rob. Meanwhile, Dwight finds evidence that a madman is loose in the office and tries to track him down, and the first meeting of Jim's new job causes a fight with Pam.

Andy must man up when his Dad blows all the family money. When Dwight is interviewed on local radio, Jim and The Office torture him with bizarre call-ins. Meanwhile, Kevin discovers a secret about Oscar. He struggles to keep it and Oscar's fate hangs in the balance.

Dwight must sell to a woman at the lucrative Scranton White Pages, causing Pam and the ladies to teach him how to interact with female clients. Angela suspects the Senator is cheating on her; she and Oscar spy on him at his yoga class. Meanwhile, Andy skypes in from his boat, and Toby convinces several guys in the office to grow mustaches in honor of "Movember"

Angela discovers her husband's affair with Oscar and goes to Dwight for help. Jim needs a favor from Stanley and Phyllis who milk it for all it's worth. Pam begins painting her mural in the warehouse but gets distracted by Pete who is building a tower of complaint cards.

When the party planning committee drops the ball on the annual Christmas party, Dwight gets everyone to celebrate with a traditional Schrute German Christmas. David Wallace tasks Dwight with finding a new part-time salesman to fill in for Jim. Dwight assembles a super-team of his cronies, starting with Mose. Pam tries to figure out who will be her new desk mate. Erin tries to find her birth parents with Pete's help.

When Pam asks the office to help her track down the vandal who defaced her mural, Dwight and Nellie spring to action. Darryl has difficulty dealing with the cleanliness habits of Jim in their shared Philly apartment. Meanwhile, Angela grudgingly allows Oscar and Kevin to attend her son's first birthday party.

The Office pairs off into pretend couples to take advantage of a Valentine's Day discount at a local mini-mall. Erin assures Pete she will break up with Andy when he returns, but he has good reason to doubt her. Jim and Pam share a meal with Brian, the documentary's sound man.

Pam interviews for a job in Philadelphia with a manager who gives her deja-vu. Dwight brings Angela with him on a mission to clean his elderly Aunt Shirley. Andy learns that Pete and Erin are dating.

"Stairmaggedon" strikes the office when the elevator goes out and everyone is forced to take the stairs. Dwight forces Stanley to do an important sales call. Pam and Jim find comfort in talking with Nellie and Toby about marital troubles. Meanwhile, Angela stands by her man.

Dwight and Angela compete in an office-wide paper airplane contest with a cash prize. Local talent agent Carla Fern helps Andy with his first acting role in an industrial film. Jim and Pam try to use new skills they have learned in couples counseling.

Andy attempts to get enough strength to quit his job and pursue his dream as an actor. Dwight receives his black belt in karate from his new sensei. Jim returns to Scranton and spends time with Pam.

As the office readies for the premiere of the documentary that night, Jim convinces Dwight, who is planning to propose to Esther, that he needs an Assistant to the Assistant Regional Manager, and holds tryouts to find the best candidate. Angela brings her baby to work after her daycare turns her away. Meanwhile, Andy attends auditions for "The Next Great A Cappella Sensation."
