"Interview" is the sixth and final episode of the second series of the British Office. It is written and directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant and aired on November 4, 2002.
Synopsis[]
Although slightly annoyed that his redundancy does not seem to bother his staff, David's spirits remain high as he plans his future while also being interviewed for an article in Inside Paper. Tim takes drastic action when he learns that Dawn has resigned in order to move to the US with her boyfriend Lee: he breaks up with Rachel, removes his wireless microphone and tells Dawn his true feelings; she hugs him, but declines to break up with Lee. When David is told that his services as a motivational speaker are also no longer required in the presence of the interviewer, he begs Neil to reconsider the dismissal.
Connections to the American Office[]
- "Casino Night" (also the finale of the second season) also features a scene where Jim confesses his feelings to Pam only to get turned down. Both confessions are prompted by an impending separation (here Dawn is moving to the US, in "Casino Night" Jim is transferring to Stamford) . The biggest difference is that the dialogue is inaudible in this episode and can be heard in "Casino Night".
- Tim and Dawn's inaudible dialogue with mic packs turned off is referenced by inaudible dialogues in "Company Picnic" when Jim learns Pam is pregnant and "Goodbye, Michael" when Pam says goodbye to Michael. Also possibly pariodied in "Crime Aid", where instead of turning their microphones off before having sex, Michael and Holly accidentally turn them all the way up.
