Darryl-Val Relationship

Darryl Philbin and Val Johnson were coworkers that started to date. 

Season 8

Darryl is shown checking Val out in Doomsday. Gabe Lewis, though, also vies for her affections and asks her out first. Val tells him that she wouldn't date a coworker, and Darryl realizes that he should stop his pursuit.

In Christmas Wishes, Darryl accidentally gives Val false dress code information, and she shows up to the party looking too formal. Darryl recognizes Val's uncomfortableness and changes into a tuxedo to make her feel more at home. 

In Special Project, where Val gives him a homemade beanie, which Darryl thinks is a "Love beanie." But when he comes down to the warehouse, he sees Val talking to Nate Nickerson, who also has a beanie. In fact, he realizes that everyone related to the warehouse has a beanie. Darryl, crestfallen, returns to his upstairs office. 

In After Hours, Brandon, Val's boyfriend, arrives at the office to donate food from his restaurant. He openly accuses Darryl of trying to hit on his girlfriend, and after a test, is even more suspicious. However, Val assures him that there is nothing between them and asks Darryl that they shouldn't talk about that incident ever again. Spurred on by Pam, though, Darryl gives a hint that he is still trying to court her before walking away.

In Free Family Portrait Studio, Darryl shows re-enstated workers Glenn and Hide around. He loudly raves about Val in front of her office, oblivious that Brandon is sitting beside her just inches out of sight. Brandon pops out of the office and aggressively demands Darryl if he is still trying to flirt with Val. Darryl admits that he is, and slips off an angry insult before strolling away from an irate Brandon and a bewildered Val.

Later, when Darryl is taking pictures with his daughter Jada, he beckons Val to join them, showing that Val probably broke up with Brandon and is now an item with Darryl.

Season 9

In Lice, Darryl claims that he manipulated Val into dumping him. Phyllis, Kevin, and Nellie think that he deserves Val and persuades her to get back together with him, much to Darryl's dismay. 

Their relationship is not mentioned for the rest of the series. Although they are shown walking together in the Finale, Darryl has moved away from Scranton, and Val is still working in the warehouse.
